Wit Płażewski
He lived from 1932 to 2004. In the years 1952-1957 he studied at the Faculty of Sculpture of the Gdańsk PWSSP in the studio of Prof. Stanisław Horno-Popławski. After graduation, he returned to his hometown and started working as a form designer at the Faience Plant in Włocławek. He defended his diploma externally at the Faculty of Ceramics of the PWSSP in Wrocław in the studio of Julia Kotarbińska. In post-war Poland, faience was produced in two main centres, in Koło and Włocławek. In 1945, the former factories of Teichfeld, Asterblum and Czamanski were merged and the state-owned Faience Plant in Włocławek was established. Initially, it was based on pre-war patterns, a real ceramic boom broke out at the turn of the 50s and 60s. At that time, many innovative forms of ceramic and painting decorations were created, which set new trends in the rapidly developing Polish industrial design.
